Sierra thought about the recent tragedies in her own life. "I'm sorry that she hurt you. I know how difficult losing the person you love can be."

Asha reached over and touched Sierra's cheek. "I know you do. I can see it every time you look at me."

Sierra laid her head on Asha's chest. "As they say, that which does not kill us only makes us stronger."

Asha chuckled. "That saying sucks."

"I couldn't agree more," Sierra replied with a laugh.

Asha's brown eyes grew serious. "I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to come back by after my shift and sleep with you."

"But?" Sierra said.

"But, I don't want to just sleep with you," Asha replied.

Sierra shifted nervously under Asha's intense stare. "What do you want then?"

"I want you to tell me the truth," Asha said. "I want to know who hurt you so deeply that it made you terrified to love anyone else."

Sierra's mouth went dry. "That's all in the past. Why do we need to dredge it up?"

"It's not in the past," Asha replied. "You carry it around with you."

Sierra sat up and turned her back to Asha. "I do not."

Asha placed her hand on the center of Sierra's back. "Yes, you do. It's obvious with all the questions you ask about Vivian."

Sierra stood up and glared at Asha. "You have no right to talk to me that way. I saw you with Vivian tonight."

Asha's eyes widened. "You saw us?"

"Yes," Sierra replied hotly. "I was in the vending room when the two of you had your lovers' spat. I'm not sure why you didn't take her up on her invitation."

"What invitation are you talking about?" Asha said defiantly.

"The invitation to fuck her," Sierra shouted, tears spilling from her eyes. "I overheard the whole thing."

Asha's body visibly tensed. "Why didn't you tell me?"

"Because I wanted you to tell me," Sierra replied. "I can't handle any more heartache. My ex-girlfriend cheated with my best friend the day of my mother's funeral and that was truly enough for me. I have to know that you're over Vivian or I can't make love with you."

"Hold on," Asha said, reaching for the phone. She dialed quickly. "Alexandria? Yeah, everything's okay. See if you can find someone to cover the rest of my shift. Oh, it's until midnight. That's great. You're a lifesaver. Thanks."

"What was that about?" Sierra asked weakly as Asha hung up the phone.

Asha walked around the bed and took Sierra into her arms. "Let's get out of here."

"Where do you want to go?" Sierra replied.

"I want to take you home and cook you dinner," Asha said. "Then you can tell me more about this stupid woman who broke your heart."

"You cook?" Sierra said, attempting to change the subject.

Asha led Sierra over to the closet. "I'll cook you the best meal you've ever had."

Sierra grabbed her jacket. "Do I need anything else?"

"Only if you plan on staying the night," Asha said.

Sierra walked into the bathroom and grabbed her toothbrush. She held it up for Asha and shrugged.
